    Short/ underdeveloped lower jaw

Well I just hatched out my pastave sulfur x pewter clutch, very exciting! However one of the babies has a underdeveloped lower jaw, what's worse it's on my most beautiful morph (sulfur silver streak poss Mojave). Just notices it a day after cutting, on day 54. I'd say it's about 3/4 developed. So my question is, does anyone have experience with this? Also thoughts on chances of survival? I don't have a pic of its jaw, but here's a pic of this little gem.

Survival (and by that ability to eat on it's own) will depend on the extent of the under bite, in severe cases the animal will not be able to eat and starve to death, so the best thing is to euthanize them.

Do you have a picture from below to get an idea of the extent?

There are two threads on this issue if that helps. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...eformed+babies and http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...g-in-the-mouth

Basically what Deborah said. I feel like you may have to do some assist-feeding to begin with, but if he can eventually eat on his own he should survive. Hard to give you any more info than that without a pic. I have a couple 'special needs' herps that no one thought would make it, and they certainly have their quirks, but as long as they have decent quality of life I think they can still make good pets.

I'm unable to get a good pic at the moment, but I'd say its comparable to what was seen in the other posts, perhaps slightly less severe. None the less still an unfortunate situation.

    Re: Short/ underdeveloped lower jaw

One of those threads Deborah posted was mine. All of my babies passed away and we're not sure why. The may not have been able to drink and did not appear to have tongues. They seemed lethargic throughout their short life. Other people claim they can live with this deformity with no issues.

So sorry for your beautiful baby to hatch like this. Wish we had more answers.

    Re: Short/ underdeveloped lower jaw

I agree with Deborah. I was the other thread from last year. We would need to see the extent of the underbite to really get a good idea if it's bad or not so bad
