Humidity question!

Hey guys so I have my guy in a screen top tank with aspen. I have plexiglass covering half the tank to keep some humidity in. I also live in Minnesota so its pretty dry. I find myself misting my cage twice a day to keep humidity higher. Usually when I mist it'll go to about 60% and slowly decrease over the day till I spray at night. Am I spraying too much? I heard snakes can get blisters from being too wet?

It's called scale rot. And yes, it comes from bedding being too wet and dirty. I've got like 90% of my screen top covered. Twice a day isn't excessive, you might try cypress bedding though, it is better for humidity. My concern would be once you hit shed for your snake and it might benefit for like 65 or 70 humidity. What are you using to measure your humidity? A dial gauge or an electronic/digital hydrometer?

I was thinking of covering the screen more.. and I have multiple hydrometers. Analog and digital.

Your snake isn't going to get scale rot at 60% humidity. The animal would need to be consistently wet, not humid, for a significant amount of time for this to begin to set in. Misting, with limited ventilation, and a humid hide when shedding is sufficient.

I had humidity issues when I started as well (not as dry here in Calgary as down in Minnesota, but dry enough )

Got mostly the same advice when I asked here, and now have a aluminum-foil-covered pieces of cardboard with holes poked through them covering the mesh parts on my tank topper.

I also found that the fake plants I put in for clutter later on really helped hold onto the humidity after misting.
