best non-wood substrates?
I've just discovered wood mites in my sub-adult and adult racks, so I'm assuming they're coming from my main source. I've been using lignocel for around 8 months and this is the first time I've ever had mites of any kind. I'd like to change to a non-wood substrate to prevent them coming back as I know they aren't harmful to snakes but I don't like the thought of them being on my snakes. Any suggestions for an alternative substrate that won't harbour wood mites and also won't cause impaction if my snakes swallow some while feeding?

Re: best non-wood substrates?
MarkS here on the forum turned me onto "Bogus Paper" from a company called ULINE. You can get it in varying sizes and weights and you can even buy a roll cutter for easy sizing. I have the 18" wide roll and just cut a little longer than tub length. There is no issue of ingestion of the sub-strate, the paper being longer and wider than the tub forces all the sides to fold up and basically create a bowl that captures much of the urates and feces, making cleaning much easier. Last, it holds humidity well when you spray it

Re: best non-wood substrates?
I recently switched over to paper as well. It's the wrapping paper from Uhaul and used to wrap household goods when you are moving. 10.00 for 200 sheets. It's white and clean and unprinted paper. For me it keeps the humidity at a more acceptable percent also.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

Thanks lads, just looked it up and found a few good UK suppliers. Think I remember seeing a video that J Kobylka posted talking about this stuff a short while back

I use kiln dried aspen from Petco. Kiln drying will kill all the bugs.

And then sitting around a PETCO will put them right back in again...
And I believe the OP was looking for non wood substrate suggestions...
And this thread is from almost a year ago...
