What is my estimated price for a vet visit? I know that I will have to pay for a initial fee and a fecal exam fee. I want to know the general cost before I visit. By the way, I live in Los Angeles! Thank you

Too many variables to guess at. Just call the vet offices and compare. Make sure they are exotic pet vets!

I'd imagine it would vary depending on the vet hospital. And where it is. My very charged me a flat fee of 72 bucks for coming in and him looking at my pastel, then he charged the 12 bucks or whatever it was for the meds. I'm not even sure what a fecal exam would cost!

My retics vet visit cost me 107 and change but that was for the visit and the meds she's getting for her respritory infection. So it can really vary from vet to vet

I think a more important question is "how much experience does the veterinarian have working with _____ ?" I understand cost is a realistic factor when it comes to veterinary care, but finding an experienced practitioner should be the ultimate goal. I would recommend calling various clinics, looking at online reviews/forums, asking other hobbyists/local herp society in order to find an experienced vet who is knowledgeable working with the particular species you have.

As has already been said, taking a snake to a vet that isn't an exotics specialist you run the risk of basically wasting your time. The only time I've ever had that work out was when I knew exactly what was wrong and what I needed prior to taking the animal in.

The easiest way to figure out what a vet visit will run you is to call the office and ask since it varies depending on the vet.

It really depends, my exotic veterinarian charges a flat rate of $65 for just the office visit and basic examination, she charged me an extra $25 for a handling fee when i brought my 13ft Burmese Python and my 4 1/2-5ft Nile Monitor in on two separate occassions a couple years ago, i guess it was due to their high strung attitudes and large size.
Obviously cost is always a factor but i would look more at the experience level of the veterinarian, that is the most important thing. Every office varies so much with prices that your best bet is to call around and ask.

Our exotic vet charges us $75 for the exam when I had to take my Bluey in and then whatever medications they prescribed were extra.
