Unusual shedding behavior!

My Bravo might be addicted to hamsters!!??..... that would explain a lot. Yeah I'm gonna definitely try one now see if that gets him going again.

A 75w bulb sounds like a good idea, but why would I still need it after I set up the heat panel?

Yes, at this point if he doesn't eat the hamster after the improved temp and humidity conditions are in place and consistent, then I'll take him.

I realize I don't have the numbers to give you, but what would be considered a "substantial amount of weight loss"? In 5 months he has lost weight of course, but I don't really know how to tell how much is too much because to me he still behaves normally (social, active at night, etc) and it wasn't until his recent bad shed and the falling scales phenomenon that I began to worry.

Since the new set-up, humidity has now been between 55%-75% and temps range between 70-80F nighttime, 80-90F daytime. The reason it gets really low at night is because I have had to turn off the heat lamp manually since it now gets too hot in there, upwards of 95-100F. I use a 150w red basking bulb, which is suppose to be for both daytime and nighttime cycles.

Lights can do more than either be on or off.

Do you feed him in his enclosure? If you do, do you do anything like take his hide and dish out or do you just throw it in there? Do you try to feed during day or night? Does he even seem to notice the prey?

Did not realize you had a heat panel. Still may be toouch heat though. As for the weight loss, if you can see the weigh loss, it is too much. yes, your snake can be addicted to hamsters.

So just to be sure: you need both a heat panel and a heat bulb?

Thanks again for the ongoing advice. After these couple of exchanges I have realized how much I don't know and how it has affected my Bravo. Feeling a little guilty

When I feed him most of the time I'll do it in his enclosure and take one of his two hides out and leave the dish and the hide he is under. I only try during nighttime. In all my recent attempts, he will most of the time not notice the mouse I have been trying to feed him until the mouse directly goes up to him for physical contact at which point Bravo turns away and I'll just remove it. Some times he will notice it and slowly go into striking position but then he will lose interest and stop.

I'd try leaving everything in it and wait until his head is poking out and as secretly as you can throw it in (maybe even keep the top off if he pokes out nightly and watch for him to do it). My guy doesn't like being touched by the rodent at all and it shys him away. I've noticed he is more likely to strike when the rodent doesn't know he's in there so he can "hunt" it a little more. He likes to watch it run by his hide and follow it, then immediately strike. I'm no expert though this is just from experience with my 1 snake. Good luck to you!

I just wanted to give you all the good news!! Last night, Bravo finally decided to eat! I am so happy and relieved!


I'd like to take the time out to say thank you to all of you who gave your and I want to especially shout out BCS for getting me to realize that Bravo's addicted to hamsters .
