1st year breeding balls and so far, so good!

tend to read threads and not post much, but I'm excited so I figured I would share it with some people who would understand my excitement! A few years ago I got 2 female 100% het pieds with the hope of breeding them. This past summer I got a pastel 100% het pied proven male. I began putting him in with the larger female back in November. Since December, they have locked several times, including yesterday. My female is 1800grams and this is her 1st time breeding. I'm hoping for at last 1 pied, if she lays any eggs.
My other female is still under 1000grams, so maybe I will breed her in the fall-both females are just over 3years old and from the same breeder.
Also, I tried to post photos, but I have always had issues with THIS website and posting. so here are links to them instead: The male: Flick http://missina.net/pets/reptiles/flickSep131402.jpg
The female Tattersail, and male named Flick:

    Thank for looking,

I like the pattern your girl has, very pretty. I'm doing my very first season, too, and I hope you hit your odds

Um i have no idea. Sometime soon i hope. I use to breed leopard geckos, they were so much easer and faster to breed, but also more costly on the upkeep.

And thanks everyone! I hope they produce some nice offspring

good luck, breeding is a great experience. The pairing process, watching her grow, glow, ovulate and eventually coiled around eggs is very cool. And when they hatch its tremendously rewarding as the process takes months. Enjoy the ride and best of luck! Sounds like you're on the right path!!!!

Re: 1st year breeding balls and so far, so good!

So at the beginning of the year I started this post and now its way past time for an update. Tattersail laid 4 good eggs and 1 slug on April 19th (my birthday). Those 4 good eggs all hatched on June 18. Sadly I did not get any pieds, but I did get 4 very pretty pastels. I *think* I have 1 male and 3 females..but I am going to get that double checked by someone who has sexed ball pythons before since this was my first time.
    First the eggs

Now one of the eggs being candled

And then the babies once they were ALL out of their shells!

At any rate, I will breed this male to the same female next year, and another 100% het pied female. If I do not get any pieds next year I will know the male was sold to me incorrectly and will take it up with the breeder that I got him from. For now I am just going to be happy that these babies are all healthy and watch how they grow over the next few months. Im hoping that if nothing ealse, they will end up with the high white sides similar to their father.

Those are some very pretty pastels, tho no pieds is kinda a bummer. Hopefully you'll get some next try! I'm in my first breeding currently and feel your excitement!!
