    New BP!

Hey guys! This is my new 2014 Pastel. I named him Loki.

He's got a very funny personality so far. On his first exploration of his enclosure, he worked his way up the side and then leaned over backwards to look back the other way. Such a character!

He's only been home a couple days, so I haven't handled him at home yet. When I picked him up, he struck at the breeder while I was handling him, which startled the breeder more than it startled me. I'm relatively new to snake handling, so it was nice to get an idea of the amount of power in his strike (A LOT).

Anyhow, I'm waiting 5 days before offering him his first meal, then I'll be waiting another 3 days before I handle him. Does this sound right to those of you who are a bit more familiar with the protocol when bringing home a new snake?

What a cute little python you got there!

It's usually said that when owning a new ball python, it should be left in the cage to explore and get used to the surroundings for an entire week before handling it. Ball pythons are shy and docile, they could get stressed due to various reasons.

    Best of luck!

    He's a beauty, isn't he?

Well, I also brought home my first BP, a 9 month lesser pastel, Noodles, this Saturday. He is a cutie too. He is of a very tame temperament though. He is not shy with me at all. From day 1, I have been handling him for a short time everyday so that he will get used to me. He hasn't even hissed at me yet. He is not even head shy. Just loves to crawl all over me lol.

However, he balled up when my roommates approached him. Can he sense that they (my roommates) also don't trust him either?

My biggest test will be on the feeding day. He has been fed every weekend according to the record given to me by the breeder. I am worried whether he'd have settled in his new home well enough until this weekend to accept his food or not.
