An interesting situation

So in my tank I have 2 hides one hot and one "cold". The hot hide is the exo Terra large rock dome thingy. So I went to check on Sasha today and she's in shed. not the issue of this thread. But her substrate is soaked... and has been for the past few days. Just under the hide. Now I use a 2 layer method for my substrate. A very wet bottom layer of Miltons and then a dry thick top layer of reptibark. Keeps my humidity up. But is that large wet spot a problem? She's always on it and even the dome on the inside is damp from the high humidity level I don't wanna deal with scale rot

I really don't like wet spots in substrate - you can get sufficient humidity for shedding etc long before anything seems wet.

I would look into correcting the humidity by balancing the airflow and the surface area of the waterbowl instead.

It's just the one spot... so I'm thinking that if I were to drill holes or something into the hide it'd let the air dehumidify

I would stick to dr del's suggestions fix the problem and don't ruin the hide. Soaking wet substrate will get moldy and nasty and can't be good for the snake.

Wet substrate = Scale rot. How about you use the 2 layers of substrate on the areas outside of the hides, and leave the hides dry instead?
