    BP Adult Snake Rack Builds

    I would love if some of you sent me pictures of your homemade snake racks. I have tried and tried to make one myself but I always end up with tight or loose bins and it is driving me crazy. Having them professionally made is way too expensive. I have tried the melamine racks. The Home Depot plastic shelve rack and I still cannot seem to get this right. I also have no clue what sizes of bins to use for adults. Some people say 28q but they seem so small for adults.

    So can you please show me yours and explain how to make it and what you used. I would be very grateful.

    I have a pair of racks, but I plan on going down to just the big one in the middle. Going to be making slight modifications to the adult rack and the rat rack and selling those off.

    28 qts are fine for males, especially those that are maintenance fed and tend to stay smaller than females. For females, you're going to want a 41 qt for adults, which is what the rack in the corner was built for. I used simple plywood for both my snake racks, though the bigger one is intended for multiple sizes and if the slot is too loose for one size it allows for the lid to be kept on the tub. If it's tighter, I remove the lid (which I prefer).

    Super simple build for both, since it's basically the same thing for both but with different dimensions. Plywood with 1x2 studs on the bottom sides and back (sides so that the shelf can be attached to the legs, back for a backstop to the tubs). It's a pretty common plan that you can find here on this site or even on youtube. Honestly for my next build I may go melamine since the plywood can warp in high humidity, or even xpvc if I could find it.

    Edit;
    found my designs for the adult rack. Not super detailed and more of a shopping list with a doodle, but it's what I have.

    I thought of PVC as will but cannot seem to find it anywhere. Where do you get 41q? I have not been able to find them anywhere and also do you have a brand of tubs you prefer to use. I got some at home depot that was super cheap but they are so flimsy that it makes them pretty hard to pull out.

    And hey, that is a better doodle then I could do hahaha.

    Got mine at walmart. I've been using sterilite and don't think I can change them out for a different brand as they have some wonky measurements. You may also try target or just order them online. Amazon has a pretty impressive sterilite selection if you just can't find it elsewhere.

    they should be opening a menards by me soon, i'll be on the look out when they do. With melamine prices going up each year, I think its over 40 bucks a sheet near me, I'll spend the extra few bucks for some plastic. Cheapest I could find any rack building plastic was over 100 bucks a sheet last time i looked. thanks for the heads up.

    OP to get the right height for your rack, you can cut the sides, and put the bottom piece on. Then place a tub with a spacer (a lot of people use cds for spacers) on it, place the next shelf on top then screw in place, place the tub and spacer on the shelf you just put up, next shelf on top, screw in place, repeat...

    Any other option i know requires a table saw to be easily done.
