Thoughts on selling dinkers?

As all of you know normals come in a wide variety and every one is just slightly different. People post pics on here all the time asking about their snake and 9 out of 10 times everybody says its just a normal. At what point does an interesting normal become a dinker? I have seen several people selling "dinkers" and some of these are several hundred dollars. I was wondering what people think about selling a NORMAL (its a normal until proven otherwise) for several hundred dollars.

Never seen a dinker selling that high yet, but I have seen them going 50-100 bucks. For myself, I'm not paying extra for one. At least not unless it's REALLY different. Heck, I produced a female normal last year that was so clean people swore she was something other than normal, and I ended up keeping her since I didn't think I'd get anything extra out of her. Helps that she is a great eater too.

TSK has a lot of interesting dinkers and sells some for a very pretty penny. A lot of them have made it to auction and sell for as high as 300 to 400 dollars, but the bottom line is that a snake or anything else is worth exactly how much people will pay for it.

That's true about it being worth whatever people will pay. I know it's about what each indivial likes and all that. I just find it hard to imagine me trying to justify selling somebody a normal for $200. That's just my personal opinion though.

I really don't have any issues with someone trying to sell a normal for several hundred dollars, I'm a little amused that some people are actaully willing to PAY that kind of money though.

Some can be really interesting and well worth a few hundred dollars or more. I've also seen some that I wouldn't pay extra for. If you see potential go for it; if not, then pass. It's not a bad way of adding some fun to a project.

An unproven potential mutation. It's just an interesting looking normal that you hope will turn out to be an inheritable trait.

My take is that paying more for a 'dinker' takes some of the fun out of it, the BEST dinkers are those you find yourself.

I'd also like to point out there's a significant difference between a pretty normal that people like to post and think it's something more just because of a head stamp or a lighter shade of totally normal color and these high dollar dinkers, which anyone could look at and reasonably assume there was something extra going on. Am I about to drop 350 on an otherwise normal ball python with a head stamp and some pretty dorsal striping? No, probably not. Would I seriously consider it for an animal with wild banding and not a single spot or eye otherwise? Sure, why not?

Remember, all morphs were dinkers until they were proven genetic!
