    Shift in Temperature

So, I had my 20L glass tank set up on the bar in my kitchen, and I had the heat set up perfect. Thermostat was keeping the hot spot at 88-90 (the dial was set to around 95). I have a uth with the thermostat prob between the pad and glass. I have the AcuRight Temp & Humidity digital gauge, without hot spot probe on the glass, under the substrate (compressed coconut husk fluff stuff). I moved the tank to a new location, in the corner of my living room because I am short and couldn't get into the tank well with it up on the bar. Now, it's reading 85-87. The heat gun shows that the glass over the heating pad has spots ranging from 83-90, AFTER cranking up the thermostat dial to 98ish. I'm too nervous to crank it up any higher. Ugh!

I am in contact with the breeder I got my little guy from, as I'm a first time snake owner. But I wanted to pick y'alls brains, too.

Jack (the snake) seems to be fine. He cruised all over and settled in the cool hide.

It's dangerous for a former pokemon trainer to get into ball pythons...

    Re: Shift in Temperature

All is well. I figured out why the temp changed. When it was up on the bar, I had an old hot pad between the uth and my countertop. The kind of hot pad that is a thin layer of metal crimped over a piece of cardboard, you know, for putting your hot pots and pans on. I stuck it back under the uth, and it's brought the hot spot back into the 88-90 range. YAY!

Great! Any time you change the location of your enclosure it will affect your ambient temps mostly. Its perfectly fine to have minor temperature fluctuations that can be tweaked and adjusted. You are looking and sounding like a pro already. Lol.
Stay in peace and not pieces.
