    Who decides on world's first?

    Hi everyone,

Just a general question on "world's first" morphs. Who decides if it's a world's first? I was just wondering. ;-)

I don't think anyone is ever 100% sure on the "world's first" status. If you think you have one, you do a google search and check World of Ball Pythons...and if you can't find your combo anywhere, then you can try to call it a "world's first". Even then, it still happens that someone else will come along and say, "Oh no you don't! I did it first!"

There isn't any particular group of people or individual person that has some sort of final say in such matters.

Personally, with very few exceptions, I think the whole "world's first" claim on ball python combos is pretty lame anyhow. But it seems important to some folks....so....whatever floats your boat.

If it's never been made before...? I imagine all the breeders going for such things keep informed on such subjects.

From what I can tell World of Ball Pythons seems like the Holy Bible of morphs... people probably do a google search and check that site for what they've bred.

Some people do it to have their name next to the morphs name, which I would call lame also. But there's something pretty cool about holding something that is the only one in the entire world. I think it even has more of an effect because you know it won't be the only one forever. I guess I have an appreciation for things like that, hand painted artwork and custom wood or metal work, I like 1 of a kind stuff.

I have to agree OWAL. It is just super neat to see that awesome new thing that we've never seem before. If you've seen the SnakeBytes episode when the scaleless BP comes out, Brian certainly was excited, and with good reason

Idiots that think they know what's in every ones collection in the world. Many keep quiet(no big ego),so the idiots fell because no one speaks out,it means no one else has it.

Brian from BHB did not have the first scaleless. Eugene Bessette had a scaleless ball python way back in 2007 that died at 800 grams. I have no problem with people trying to make new combinations of proven genes (its fun), but there are some (not naming names) that are making up new genes that really are just a variation within an existing gene. The fact is that the top guys in the BP world are not going to out the fact that they are years ahead of where they say they are. An actual new gene, not a combination, is big money. They have to control the release of it so they can get as much money as possible.
