New baby retic need advice please.

    Hi All,
Just got a new baby retic. Sumatran x Philippine and noticed that she has a sore on her head. Wondering if it's stuck shed or something else. Should I try and remove it do I need any type of antibiotics? Any advice on what to do would be appreciated...TIA.

Question Re: New baby retic need advice please.

What happened? Did you purchase her like this? What kind of environment does she live in? Temps , humidity, hot spot? How old is she?

I got her like this. When I went to the breeder to get her I checked her body for mites or any defects. I failed to check the head . I just got her set up last night. She lives in an acrylic enclosure. I live in a tropical climate so I don't have additional heat source. Daytime temps average 80-90 degrees. Humidity averages 80-90%. She was hatched March 28, 2015.

Congrats on your Retic. Never saw a wound like that before but I hope it can heal.

I would get some Vetericyn, if you have a Petco nearby they sell it in the store, if not you can buy it online. It's a topical antiseptic for wounds in a water-based gel, so it won't soften scales or cause them to slough off like Neosporin can. Normally you spray it on the wound but she'll probably freak out about being sprayed on her head, so I'd put it on something like a Q-tip and use that to apply it to the wound.

It will take a few sheds but it should heal up just fine.

First, congratulations on a amazing animal!

I would contact the breeder and let him know that I discovered this injury and does he have any idea how the retic got it. See if he can be forthcoming with any information. Follow bcr229 and her recommendation for treatment and if it doesn't improve in a week call the vets office. Good luck with her.

Yes. I contacted the breeder he said it was from her last shed and that it should clear up in a few sheds. He said if it doesn't he will replace her.
