Books!!!! Books Everywhere!!!!
Hey all!
I am a massive reader. If anything, reading is the hobby I love most, after dreaming about what to get when I can afford another BP. I mainly read YA fiction, a habit I got into at University due to my intensive program. I also enjoy reading anything that takes place in Tudor England.
GIVE ME RECOMMENDATIONS!!! I'm staring at my bookshelves, hungry for something new.

My two loves are also reading and snakes.
My favorites right now are the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz (about a guy who sees dead people)
I recently read the first Dresden files and it was okay, my son liked it more then me.(about a modern day sorcerer P.I.)
There is a pretty good book site called Goodreads that has lots of reviews for different genres of books.I pretty much will read anything but havent read much YA. Except for Harry Potter, loved those..I am going to read the Twilight series one of these days.
I dont know, books are so personal its hard to recommend something someone else will like.
What about the Game of Thrones series. I tried the first one but didnt care for it.

Game of Thrones is an excellent series of books (although it takes forEVEr for him to write the next book and it's not finished yet, so who knows how many years it will take to get to read the conclusion) but it is also extremely violent and graphic and difficult to follow, so definitely not suited to everyone's tastes.
Odd Thomas is a really fun series. He just recently published the last book of that series and wrapped it up very nicely. A bit smooshy....but nice. It's got lots of tension, good laughs, rich characters, and various philosophical points to ponder.
An old classic that I really enjoy and re-read every couple of years is The Count of Monte Christo by Alexandre Dumas. That's a book that you can dig your teeth into and chew on for a long time. If you've ever seen the movie, try not to think about it too much when reading the book, because other than the basic premise of the story, they don't have much in common, although I enjoyed both very much.
If you're looking for something a little edgy (not really sure what your tastes are beyond YA and other than Harry Potter, that's not a genre I'm familiar with) you might consider The Dark Tower series by Steven King. It's a little hard to get into when you start reading the first book, but after a little while, it will suck you in and not let you go. A very meaty series that will keep your reading heart busy for a good long time.

Young adult fiction and England. Hmmm. Have you read any of the Flavia de Luce mysteries? Look up 'The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie' by Alan Bradley, you won't be disappointed.

I'm a bit of a book junky myself. Here are couple choices from several categories for your reading consideration.
I'll start with some science fiction since I read it the least:
Isaac Asimov -- A good stand alone book is Nemesis. He also wrote the Foundation Series, which is outstanding! If you're only ever going to read one sci-fi author, this has to be the one. One of the most prolific writers you've ever seen, so if you do like him you can keep yourself busy for years.
Scott Orson Card -- Ender's Game, a good stand alone read even though it's part a series. I only recommend this one as I haven't read any of the others.
Japanese historical fiction:
Eiji Yoshikawa -- He wrote Taiko and Musashi, both excellent reads if you're interested in a bit of Japanese culture.
James Clavell -- Japanese fiction with an emphasis on fiction. Still, his The Asian Saga has some good reads in it. If you're only going to read one it would probably have to be Shogun though Tai-Pan and King Rat are fun too.
Arthurian Legends:
T.H. White -- This guy wrote The Once and Future King, a fantastic read and one of my all time favorites! The Disney cartoon was based on this book.
Sir Thomas Malory -- If you don't mind old english, check out Le Morte d'Arthur. It always takes me a little while to get into the language but once I do I fly through this one. Lots of wonderly wroth and wood wroth, especially where Sir Gawain is involved!
I'll end with a couple fantasy options::
J.R.R Tolkien -- I dig the whole hobbit and lotr series but The Silmarillion is probably my favorite Tolkien story(ies). It was published after his death but luckily for us his son has done an excellent job of putting together some unfinished manuscripts. More recently released is Tolkien's translation of Beowulf which I haven't read yet but I doubt I'll be disappointed.
C.S. Lewis -- I read some of his stuff as a kid and still read it today. If you haven't checked out The Chronicles of Narnia yet, I highly recommend you do.

0.1 Faye Tiny Kitty

I have some older books that are really good. The Seventh Tower, by Garth Nix. Garth Nix has quite a few good books and is one of my favorite authors. Tithe, by Holly black as well as Ironside and Valiant. Those three books are about faeries interacting with humans in a modern day settting. They're a little dark but the world is rich and well written. Also by Holly Black, The Curse Workers series; White Cat, Red Glove, Black Heart.
The Claidi Journals by Tanith Lee, consisting of Wolf Tower, Wolf Star, and Wolf Queen. It's a little weird to try and explain.
Diana Wynne Jones. She writes primarily young adult fiction (as far as I know) and I haven't met a book written by her that I don't like. Every book is very engaging and well written.
The Pit Dragon Chronicles by Jane Yolen; Dragon's Blood, Heart's Blood, A Sending of Dragons, and Dragon's Heart.
If you haven't read them already, The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini; Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance.
The Young Wizards series by Diane Duane is the last set of books I can think of, and by far my favorite. Here they are, in order; So You Want To Be A Wizard, Deep Wizardy, High Wizardry, A Wizard Abroad, The Wizard's Dilemma, A Wizard Alone, Wizard's Holiday, Wizards at War, A Wizard of Mars, How Lovely Are Thy Branches, and Games Wizards Play.

Thanks all!! There is certainly enough here to keep me going for the next couple years.
Miranda- I do have an account on goodreads, love that website. Especially the lists they make of books due to come out in the future. I try not to go to the bookstores too much given what a weakness they are for me, so that website comes in handy. I'll look into the Odd Thomas books, that sounds like something I'd like
Judy - I have the GoT books in my to read pile, the first one at least. I do enjoy the TV series, and I've heard good things about the books and good things about how the translation from page to screen went, which is usually a very tricky thing. I have read CoMC, although I'm probably due for a re-read as that was one of the books in my first year university english lit class.
Mark - That series looks good. I've never been huge on mysteries but if it's mystery with a bit of a quirk to it, that makes it interesting!
John - I'm not huge on science fiction, BUT I'll give anything a shot. If I see a copy of Foundation I'll pick it up. And I LOVE Malory. When I was a teenager I read this retelling of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley, and since I've always identified with any Beauty due to the reading, I wanted to try reading Morte D'Arthur. At around the same time I also read Spencer's Faerie Queene. I've also read TLOTR and the hobbit, but I've never been able to find a copy of Silmarillion. Chronicles of Narnia I have bound in one volume.
Ani - I'll look into those, thanks
Phoenix - I adore Black's faerie books. I haven't read her other stuff but I'll take a look at it. I love Dianna Wynne jones!!! My favourite are the Howl's moving castle books, as well as Dogstar. I've also read Inheritance, And I'll look into the others

Re: Books!!!! Books Everywhere!!!!
If you're into fantasy the likes of Tolkien, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series will keep you busy for a while. It's technically a 12 book series but the last book was split into 3 books by Brandon Sanderson with the outlines Jordan had completed before he died
