Buying genes you already have
Does anyone else sometimes buy snakes with genes they already have in their collection, just because you see another one that looks really nice? I did and am not sure if it was a mistake.

Actually, you know what? It's my money I worked hard for it, and I really like the snake. I should really not feel guilty, right?

Re: Buying genes you already have
Seems like a valid point to me. At the end of the day, you're taking care of it so if you luke something, why not?
For me personally, keeping snakes is a hobby that I love. It's not a business nor do I depend on it for money. So if I see something that catches my eye i'm going to get it regardless whether I have that gene or not.

Yup. There was an article I read about business practices with ball pythons and I remember a part of it talked about not being afraid to get multiple of the same morph or combination, even with males. It talked about it as an actual business and not just a hobby, but the reasons for it made a lot of sense. In bigger collections you don't want to try to spread a male too thin, and you always have to be prepared for a male to either fail to preform or to be rejected by a female, so having another similar (or nearly identical) male on hand doesn't hurt.
I think I'll try to find that article again.

Well unless you want to start every project from scratch or you get lucky and find a snake that has none of the genes in your collection... it kind of happens without even thinking about it. Good luck only having one snake with pastel in it.... and in my case I have more hypo than anything else.

You are right. At the end of the day it's your money and your hobby. So you should get what ever you like. If you want ten pastels or thirty normals it's up to you. Just enjoy your hobby for the enjoyment you get from it.

Hey everything is better with hypo so there's nothing wrong with having lots of it!
