Eggs!

I probably won't get a proper hatch rate given what's happened the past few days. I came home a day and a half late to discover eggs that my jungle female had laid, not having the slightest idea that she was even pregnant. The male had fallen sick the past few months was taking antibiotics so I didn't anything had happened. To my surprise she laid 25 eggs but wasn't wrapped around them. They were scattered outside her coil. I candled a few right off the bat and saw veins in the 8 or 9 I checked. Looked healthy enough to me.

Having no incubator ready I put them in a crude one I had made a year ago and noticed it wasn't heating up all of them evenly and the vermiculite seemed too dry. So they stayed in temperature ranges from 88 to 81 and 60% - 70% humidity. This caused some to dimple a lot.

They were laid on the 21st and as of yesterday are in a proper incubator with an egg crate where the measured humidity it 100% and two different temperature probes are reading 87.5 exactly. I'm hoping some of them still hatch since they still have veins, even though dimpled more than fresh eggs should be. The picture is of the initial setup. They are in a completely different and better one now.

Given that the humidity is optimal now will they recover the dimpling? I still have hope for some of the eggs if not most. Having experienced ball python incubation I know that these things are more resilient than we give them credit for.

So that's my story. I will post updates near the end of the incubation period.

Nice Carpets! Congrats on the eggs, ive never bred snakes yet but I read alot, and I dont think your eggs will be greatly effected by the temp or humidity levels at the beginning. They didnt get too cold or dry. They should be fine in your new incubator. But like i said i have ZERO experience breeding so not sure. Goodluck friend

I think they will be fine. Just give them time and I'm sure you should get some babies in a few weeks.

Wow what a gorgeous pairing! I don't know much about carpets but I like to look at them keep us updated on the eggs can't wait to see those beautiful babies.
