    Exclamation HELP! She's acting weird

I fed Mangle again after one week. I fed her a frozen/thawed small rat. I pressed its belly to be sure I couldn't feel anything cold. It was warm throughout. So, I opened the cage top and wiggled the rat around making sure the front of the cage was covered to prevent my head signals from blocking it. Warm side is 87 deg. Cool side is 75deg. Humidity is at 50%. I let her grasp the rat and let go. I let her be. Covered her cage and peeking once and awhile to make sure she's eating. Then, as she was done, she yawned a bit… I snapped a few pics of the precious moment. Suddenly. She started turning, rotating, flipping around like mad with her mouth open! I got a few pics of that to help see whats going on.
Im not sure whats wrong with my baby. Please. PLEASe. Help me. Im not sure whats wrong with her and Im scared.

I would be worried too. perhaps the rodent was raised on cedar substrate, which has detrimental effects on the snake CNS. I'm a long time BP owner, but still a noob otherwise. I hope your BP fares well

They were raised on news paper. Cedar never touched them or her once.
What does it mean? Im scared..
Also, I adopted her in February on the sixth. I do not have a history on her.
She has a few kinks on her, but they are minor. She moves just fine. Could it be she was damaged from her previous owners?

How long did the episode last? When did it happen and has everything been normal since?

I hope I could give you insight. Being that you can't confirm the husbandry practices of the previous owner, I'd say that the best thing you can do is take care of the animal to the best of your abilities and/or check prices for a vet. Perhaps check the water for contam. as well.

AS Bondo was eluding too, the history of this activity is important. This may allow you to identify whether the animal is contacting something it shouldn't, ie cleaners (chloramines in water from using diluted bleach as a cleaner)

    Re: HELP! She's acting weird

She was from an abusive home. She has kinks but moves fine.
The episode lasted for a minute for two. She yawns about 2-3 times a day. even when she doesn't eat. She's been eating regularly once a week. Seven days apart. All rats are small and frozen and thawed. They are not cold or extremely hot. it was nice and warm. I stayed away when she ate. to avoid interfering.
I used a pair of tongs and some gloves to give her the rat to avoid bites.
Also, I treat the water with Reptisafe to clean out the chlorine and harmful things in water. I add a few drops to make sure she's safe. I do not use febreeze or anything of the such.

It seems like you are doing all the right things. BTW, I just use grocery store drinking water, the gallon refill type, for my snakes. I'm not familiar with that additive, but maybe it has gone bad?

    Re: HELP! She's acting weird

the additive was bought three months ago. It is good until next year
Im starting to think it may have to do with some of the small kinks in her spine. She is suspected to be a victim of abuse. I rarely handle her, except for the occasional petting when she's out of her hide or taking weight.
I'm just scared for my baby. I love her and hope she's okay.
She has eaten three times so far, twice in a row so far, and Im proud of her. She sat there for a few minutes with the rat she struck and didm;t start swallowing about 10 mins later. I did not touch her, but only peeked in to make sure she was eating okay. She was curled up into a ball and wrapped around her prey. I tried to stay out of it as much as possible. I did NOT force feed her or add anything, washed my hands with soap and water before hand. I wear some good work gloves to prevent bites.

    Re: HELP! She's acting weird

Im not an expert, only several months experience but I'm picturing this being two things. Either the yawning is her resetting her jaw (common after eating because they have to dislocate it to eat) in which case your snake is fine, or that it may be an RI. I say RI because you said cool side is 75* which is technically not bad but if the way you're taking temps is off by a couple degrees then it could be lower. The twisting is weird, I don't really have an answer for that but maybe if it's RI there was mucous that she was trying to dislodge?

I remember you posting (if it wasn't you then disregard this part) about whether scented incense or put fine could bother the snake. Have you stopped that near the snake?
