ultratherm on animal plastics cage
I am currently 4weeks into my 10week wait for my t12. I'm excited! Originally i was going to use flexwatt and herpstat. I got the little clear "insulator" clips for the flexwatt. i will be dividing the cage in half, at least for a bit.
The questions i have
1. There is going to be a center indent for the uth. Flexwatt is 11"wide. That's 5.5 on either side of the divider. And up to 2 feet, back to front of cage. It's this adiquate, or will they feel uncomfortable curled up and having half their body on warm and half on a cooler area? Makes me think of when there aren't enough chairs so you have to share but can only fit one cheek on... Uncomfortable!
2. If i ran flexwatt the total length of the back of the cage. 11" flexwatt would make the hotspot half the cage, not the recommended 1/3. Is that to much heat? If i went with 6" flexwatt I'm still thinking half your butt on the chair uncomfortable.
3. I like the idea of the ultratherm being 11" x 23" with the wire connector being half way on the 23" side. I could place it in the middle and each side would get an 11" x 11.5" hotspot. Ultratherm says it's low wattage, can it get hot enough to give me the desired temp through the .5" cpvc?
Animal plastics cage owners (or similar cages) please let me know what your experience is, especially if you use or have tried ultratherm as i think i like that idea best.
Everyone else let me know if you think snakes get that uncomfortable half warm half cool feeling.
Thank you!

I figured it out!
I found that I can wire flexwatt in a series. This will allow me to put them next to each other with minimal wires (overlapping slightly to account for the plastic edge that isn't heated). This will allow me to give each side a roughly 14x13 Hotspot they can fit their whole body on.
Now my question is where I overlap the edges, if I have the bus bars one on top the other, can I just use one clip pining them together. Or do they each need their own with the wire in between even thought they would basically be sitting on top of each other?

And then I price checked them at the bean farm as they have both flexwatt and ultratherm of comparable size to what I want to make with flexwatt. I priced it for two cages and the flexwatt version only saves me about $16. I would be willing to pay that for a prewired uth.
So that leads me to one question throughout. .
does ultratherm get warm enough to heat through a 1/2" cpvc cage?
