is there any reason not to attempt to feed a baby bp 1 week after i got him? I won't handle him for another week, but i was hesitant to intentionally not feed for the two week period of leaving him alone.

i dont think theres a problem. i fed my BP 4days after i got him and he ate and didnt regurge, and i fed adrian 4days after i got her and she ate

It should be fine, I waited a week after I got my BP to feed him and he did fine.

Odds are, it will be fine, particularly if you're feeding within the enclosure. If not, the handling + feeding might be a bit much all at once.
