So maybe I should leave it til Monday and then either consider switching substrates or drilling one hole in each tub?

I had the same issue and I just continued to tweak it. I added more holes in the tub and decreased the amount of cypress mulch. It also depends on which room you keep your animals in and what the temps are as well as the humidity.
