    New BP

Hey guys. I got my first bp in the mail on Friday. Hes a beautiful super pastel. He must have been in mid shed when he was shipped or something because he still has some left on him that hasn't come off. Its probably about the upper 1/3 of his body hasn't shed; also the tip of his tail which i think is off now. It looks like a little has started to come off, but its not making much progress. I've read about soaking them to get rid of stuck shed, but i don't want to handle him yet since i've only had him for a few days. So i was wondering if anyone has any tips or advice. His temps and humidity are pretty good. About 80 on the cool side and 90 on the hot with around 55-63% humidity. Also, he isn't going in his hides. I've seen him exploring his cage a good bit, but lately he's been in the same spot on the cool side. I think the hides are probably a little big for him, but i wasn't sure how big he would be. So if anyone has advice on the shed situation or why he isn't going in his hides that would be awesome. Thanks.

Bump up the humidity to 75 so he can finish shedding. If the hides are a bit large, you can put in damp sphagnum moss which will up the humidity and make it feel snug.

Also, how are you measuring temperature and humidity? How are ypu heating the enclosure? A photo or two would be helpful.

I actually bought some sphagnum moss to up the humidity. I think I'll need to put some more in. I'm measuring temps and humidity with the indoor outdoor thermometer from Walmart. Heating with a uth and infrared bulb. Basically the same set up as the one in the sticky of the husbandry forum. I can get some pics up later when i go back home.

Sounds good. Make sure the UTH is on a thermostat. Otherwise everything sounds spot on.

Yeah I have a thermostat and a lamp dimmer. I think the setup is pretty solid. Definitely did my research first. I just feel bad because he seems pretty stressed, won't go in his hides and has some stuck shed.

All you can do is provide a proper environment for him. Don't worry, let him acclimate himself to his new home and i'm sure he'll be just fine. Just keep that humidity up.

Try this. Take a pillow case and soak it in room temperature water. Tie your new baby inside the pillow case and place it inside it's enclosure overnight. When you open it back up the next day all should be good.

The warm water trick works as well. Give him a few days to see if it comes off with the humidity being up. Congratulations on the new BP.
