    Mouse Bit My Snake

I recently fed my ball python and I feed him live and this time around when he struck the mouse bit, I usually use a pencil so the mouse doesn't bite my snake and I hadn't noticed until the next day, what do I do to prevent infection? Will he grow new scales or something I don't know he's my first ball python, should I take him to the vet ?

I can't see the injury but don't put that neosporin on your snake. That's for humans.

    Welcome to the forum.

I can't see the bite. Is it on his head?

It it will heal up, and scar over.

Usually a little non pain reliever Neosporin type ointment will do. If the bite is real deep on the belly, then change substrate to paper towels.

Vet is usually not necessary unless we are talking serious gash or eye, mouth injury.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

    Etta, 2013
    1.1 Jungle Carpet Pythons

2.0 Common BI Boas, Punch, 2005; Butch, age?
0.1 Normal Ball Python, Elvira, 2001
0.1 Olive (Aussie) Python, Olivia, 2017

Please excuse the spelling in my posts. Auto-Correct is my worst enema.

Use betadine. Topical anesthetic. It won't give you the possible issues of using neosporin. Dont ever use that stuff on snakes unless if possible. Don't want to use petroleum-based products as it can damage the scales after awhile.

    I see the wound now.

If he burrows, go to paper towels. If not, fine.

Human Neosporin is fine as long as no pain reliever. I have used it with worse bites and had excellent results.

It will be a slow heal.

Others may suggest bathing solution and other meds.
