That said, it isn't an unreasonable regulation by any stretch of the word, and is far better to have this piece of regulation as opposed to the draconian garbage that requires an insane insurance policy, specific caging, micro-chipping, random inspections, and to top it off, the permit itself be super expensive.
Also, I've noticed the fact that Texas even has a regulation in the first place greatly benefits USARK's lawsuit against the USFWS.
Ah, can I ask you to point me to where you found this? It's gotten to where I've just been considering going to a lawyer every time I need to find out if keeping or selling certain animals is legal. The last website I found with laws by state only said it's legal to own pretty much any reptile in Texas, and the only permits it mentioned were for breeding non native deer species. Obviously I'm looking in the wrong places.
