Depending on how big the snake is compared to the tub, you can go with no hides, but if you have a 100g hatchling in a 41qt tub, you'd probably be better off with two or three small hides for him to hole up in.
Personally, mine get two hides. The ones in 37qt tubs get two hides until around 1500g, then I switch to one, then eventually none (just an upside down bowl to create a semi closed area at the back). The ones I have in divided 28qt tubs get two hides until around 300g then I just pull them and put an upside down bowl in to create a semi closed area at the back.
