Hides in racks?
Hello everyone,
Just wondering what you guys with racks do in terms of providing hides?
I've been providing one hide in each of my tubs in the rack, but I've seen many people not have any hides at all with closed racks.
Thanks in advance.

Depending on how big the snake is compared to the tub, you can go with no hides, but if you have a 100g hatchling in a 41qt tub, you'd probably be better off with two or three small hides for him to hole up in.
Personally, mine get two hides. The ones in 37qt tubs get two hides until around 1500g, then I switch to one, then eventually none (just an upside down bowl to create a semi closed area at the back). The ones I have in divided 28qt tubs get two hides until around 300g then I just pull them and put an upside down bowl in to create a semi closed area at the back.

It is okay to use pine bedding for snakes.
It is okay to feed live food to snakes.

For me it is more about how the snake reacts/feels than the snake to tub ratio. I have some animals that absolutely will not eat if they don't have a hide, even if they are in a secure space. I also have others that don't care how much space they have, and they feed like no tomorrow! I notice my more shy feeders seem to prefer/need a hide while in a rack.

This, I have a 2500 gram normal male in a 41-qt tub that stuffs himself under his hide and won't eat without one. The male just above him in the rack is only 1000 grams, doesn't have a hide, and if he's not eating it's because he's focused on the girls.

I do not provide hides unless there are feeding difficulties. I use unprinted news paper for substrate and the snakes tend to make their own hides by going underneath it. I usually have no issues not providing hides.
