    Snake / Rat Rack?

Im going to make this post short and sweet. I just wrote a well thought out post about my situation but its Saturday and my computer decided it would rather not work...

Is there any reason not to have rats and snakes in the same rack....Temps and everything would be right for both species i was just concerned about any other issues that might arise that i cant think of.

    Thanks

What kind of rack do you have that can support the needs of both species? Usually the ventilation needed for rats causes issues with humidity for snakes, and I can't imagine how you would keep rats watered in a drawer-type snake rack. I don't know much about the freedom breeder racks they make for snakes, but I'm fairly certain the screen mesh they come with is much too fine to get a water nipple in without cutting it, not to mention the rats won't be able to eat through it.

I would need a little more information before I said with certainty "no, this won't work", but I don't know that there's a reliable rack system that works for both species at once.

If you are keeping your rats at 90ish degrees you have problems.

    Re: Snake / Rat Rack?

When keeping rats the amonia levels are very high and snake racks do not allow the proper ventilation needed for rats, if you want to keep rats you will need a rat rack whether you build it yourself or buy it.

Snake racks will kill rodents with temperatures, and lack of ventilation. They will also get URIs constantly, and most likely be able to chew out.

Rat racks do not provide appropriate humidity levels for reptiles. The reptiles will also rub their faces on the wire, and hurt themselves.

    The racks are not interchangeable.
