Iguanas are the same way. My male was sweet most of the time and pretty easy to tell when he was in a mood, but my female was the devil incarnate. No matter what I did or how I tried to calm her down, she wanted nothing to do with me or anything else with a heartbeat. I thought she'd eventually calm down, but every day she put forth her best effort to maul my hand while I was giving her her food with the small exception of the time after she was gravid. I didn't breed her, btw. She became gravid and laid a 32 slug clutch a few years after my male passed away.

The volatile temperaments and huge caging needs are parts of why I don't recommend iguanas.
