saran wrap

hey everybody, is it okay to put saran wrap on the top of your enclousure ?? i was havin a hard time with my humiditiy but i put the saran wrap on there after i misted and the humididty went way up,just wanna make sure its okay,does anybody else do that ?

if its ok to put on your food it should be ok for a ball python.

Exactly where are you talking about on top of the enclosure? If you mean on top of the screen top, yea go for it. Just remember that you need to leave some air holes so your little guy gets some fresh air. If you are talking about using the saran wrap as the lid of the enclosure, i wouldnt. It would be too easy for the bp to escape IMO.

I agree with Carson, well said.
You just want to ensure it is a secure screen top, and also make sure there is no fire hazard, that stuff melts pretty quickly

i have a metal screen top i just streched it out over the top but i made sure that it cant touch the heat lamp ,so all of it has saran wrap on it exept for the part where the light goes. ill poke some holes in it so that air can get through. its working great

You can also use duct tape for the top. Make sure you leave some open screen for fresh air as Carson mentioned. I leave the corners open. Make sure you put the duct tape on both the top and bottom of the screen. Also, it's a good idea to check to make sure it's sticking properly from time to time.

i didnt use duct tape becuase it has that....umm....duct tape smell to it and i didnt know if it was okay to use it.

It works great IMO....just make sure you cover both sides. That smell dissipates pretty quickly...no worries!!

I too use duct tape - works great. However, I highly advise against putting it inside the tank. Just use on the top outside of the screen lid and leave openings for any lights and a little ventilation. There's no real reason to put inside the tank. Besides it may very well come lose and then you have a piece hanging in the tank - and this is asking for trouble. When I first covered my screen I put it all on the inside. Minutes after putting the lid back on I noticed a piece starting to come loose - I then realized how dangerous that could be. I believe there is someone on here that actually didn't catch it in time and their snake did get caught on the tape.

Just put on the outside top - and that should work well. Damp towels also work wonders and the substrate Bed-a-Beast is great for humidity.
