    Re: Alternate snake food ?

If the snake is large enough you may be able to feed it a chick to tide it over.

Is it just me, or has there been a lot of off posts lately?

    Re: Alternate snake food ?

I find what gets treated as an "Off" post is largely down to the responders own personal leanings.

Sometimes weird things happen. Sometimes life throws a curveball or two. A post is merely a snapshot of a situation rather than evidence of a long term situation. **shrugs**

When we respond to threads we often confuse this and make assumptions that may be utterly false. I always think we should err on the side of giving people the benefit of the doubt until we know otherwise.

    Some take a different approach.

Every conversation has two sides - like the cheeks of an ass. Sometimes the resemblance grows with time.

    Re: Alternate snake food ?

You may even be able to find a breeder or a fellow snake owner in the area that is willing to give you some of their stock, or buy you some rats. But if you believe that it's in the best interest of the snake to find it a new home, or if you think this will be a recurring problem. It's probably best to rehome your snake to someone that can properly care for and feed him on a regular basis.

If you do use a live chick, NEVER tell the feed store what you are planning to do with it. It's ALWAYS going to be a pet. I made the mistake once of calling a feed store to inquire if they had any small chicks and when they asked if I was going to be keeping them indoors or outdoors, I responded with "Oh they are gonna be food for my boa." That ended with her response of "We don't sell chicks as food for other animals, please try somewhere else." in a very stern and angered tone.

    Re: Alternate snake food ?

To get back to the OP: if you can't afford the few dollars that snake food costs each week, please rehome your snake, even if you have to give it away, and then get your own financial house in order before getting another pet.

Is it hard to stay on topic for the OP?
