    New BP help

So I just got a BP yesterday and I've been researching and I have a couple questions about heating and thermostats. I have a 20 gallon tank and a 100 watt inferred heat lamp and a UTH. My thermometer in the tank reads 93-94 on the hot side. The question I have is about the thermometer. Do I need one for my heat lamp if that even makes sense? And do I need one for the UTH? Please clarify for me lol. I appricieate any type of help I get!

A thermometer without a probe will just read air temp, so that will cover the heat from the lamp. If you get one with a probe or a infrared thermometer then you can measure surface temps of an item, such as the UTH.

I assume both are on thermostats, that will regulate the temps for you.

Thank you for the reply and no neither of them are on a thermostat. Would you mind explaining that to me?

UNPLUG that UTH until you can properly regulate it.

    Re: New BP help

This is probably a dumb question but can the thermostat regulate the temp for my heat lamp?

It can do yes, the probe will take readings of the air around it and turn off the lamp if it gets too hot, and turn it back on when it gets too low.

Have you unplugged the mat? They can get incredibly hot if not regulated.
