    Central American Boa's.

I was just curious if any of you guys had central american boas? I'm researching them for down the road, as they are probably my favourite out of all the different boa's.

I've heard mixed information about their temperament. I understand some can be nippy, some can be docile- but I was curious as to how your guy's handling experiences went.

    Pictures and information are welcome!

    Central American Boa's.

I want a CA motley some day as my next snake. I personally like the size range of the CA boas. Every snake has their own personality so my advise would be to go to a expo and handle a few and find a calmer one.

I have 1.2 Nicaraguan boas, which are often called central american. They're all t pos albino and one of the females is motley as well. They're pretty laid back, but the motley is a little unpredictable. All three squirm like crazy when taken out for whatever reason, and are pretty fun to watch compared to my ball pythons.

My favorite thing about them is that they stay small, relatively speaking. I have pics but they're horrible quality. I'll get some more tomorrow in better light.

I have 1.2 Tarahumaras which are considered "Mexican" rather than "Central American" and they have the same reputation. It makes sense that they would be a bit more defensive than their larger cousins, as their small size makes them easy targets for predators during a longer time period of their lives.

All of mine were still a bit nippy/hissy when I first got them at around a year old but they've mellowed out quite a bit. It just takes patience and gentle handling, and over time they'll figure out that the big Godzilla monster (you) isn't going to eat them.

I'm getting my CA motley male next week. So excited! I think that my next step will be to buy a breeding pair of CA boas... Probably Nicaraguan hypos or t+ (although I'm also considering sonorans or Bcls). I like their smaller size and love how the hypo gene in the Nics. doesn't reduce pattern like the hypo gene in Colombians. Size is also a big factor for me. I just don't want to deal with Colombian-sized females, so keeping a subspecies or locale that stays smaller and more manageable (preferably with smaller litter sizes) will be the only way that I would consider breeding, plus, I would think that smaller boas would be easier to sell as pets for those not used to big snakes.

I love the patterning on the CA motleys, especially the side patterning, which is why I got mine. 8_ball- The breeder I'm getting mine from still has several clutch mates available and some 2013's. Let me know if you want his information.
    Currently keeping:
    1.0 BCA 1.0 BCI
    1.0 CA BCI 1.1 BCLs
    0.1 BRB 1.2 KSBs
    1.0 Carpet 0.5 BPs
    0.2 cresteds 1.2 gargs
    1.0 Leachie 0.0.1 BTS

I have a hypo nicaraguan female. She's never been nippy. She get's a little over excited at feeding time but that's about it.
