    What is the temp on the glass directly above the heat pad? If you dont have a thermostat controlling the heat pad it could be burning him. A thermostat is different than a thermometer. The thermometer is what is telling you the ambient temp is 33C. The thermostat will control your heat pad and not let it get above a set temp.
