    Tub Dividers - Bad Idea?

Hi everyone. I thought I would share my experience with using dividers to house multiple BPs per tub.

Last year I placed a clutch of hatchlings into divided 28qt Sterilite tubs. I purchased the dividers from C Serpents.

Almost immediately, the hatchlings were squeezing their way under the dividers, using the little gaps at the front and back of the tub where the bottom dips down. I placed strips of foam tape along the bottom side of the dividers, making them fit more snugly.

That stopped the little wigglers for a while, but when they were about 6 months old, the problem came up again.

This is the worst of the bunch, but several of them developed scraped heads from trying to shove their heads under the dividers. They're now housed in individual tubs, and I won't use or recommend dividers anymore.

From what I understand, the tub dividers are meant for larger snakes, not hatchlings. I could be wrong about that though. If you're planning on using the dividers as a permanent fixture I'd run a bead of silicon caulking on each side to both ensure it's fixed and also to remove any sharp ridges.

Well, this didn't happen until they were 400g, so they weren't tiny anymore. They were fine for about 6 months and then suddenly, over less than a week, three of them scraped up their heads. The other two have relatively minor scuffs compared to the one pictured.

The dividers appealed to me as a temporary solution. I wasn't originally planning to use them as long as I did. You're right, though. This wouldn't have happened if I had bought a second set of tubs and attached the dividers to them permanently.

Hopefully others can learn from my mistakes!

I almost went for the tub dividers when purchasing my rack. Ended up getting a versatile rack system that would 15 & 32 quart tubs and I love it.

I've always been leery of those dividers myself, I've had problems in the past with snakes scraping themselves up trying to squeeze into small cracks and openings without the dividers, they looked like they could be a problem to me. Thanks for posting your experience.

I have the 28qt tubs with dividers from Reptile Basics.

My hatchlings have been in there since last June with no problems as of yet. Is there a major difference in the dividers between C-Serpents and Reptile Basics? I can't imagine there would be (how many ways can you make a divider for a tub).

Or is there a difference in the tubs? I just read "at the front and back of the tub where the bottom dips down" part again. The tubs from Reptile Basics are flat bottomed, so maybe that's why I haven't had any issues?
It is okay to use pine bedding for snakes.

The inside bottom of the 28qt Sterilite tubs are lower around the edges.

If your tubs are completely flat on the inside, they're probably Iris tubs.

Yep. Reptile Basics does use Iris tubs and mine do have flat bottoms.

That's probably why I haven't had issues with my snakes in the tubs with dividers.
