    Question about T+ Albinos

    Hi guys!

I went to a show today in Atlanta and happened to see a T+ albino blood male there... I did not take him home, but now I'm thinking that a T+ might be in my future... Their colors seem so bright in person.

That said, I was unsure if what the seller wanted was a fair price. What would you say is the going rate for a quality T+ albino male? And also, how can you tell a "good" example, from a not-so-good one?

    Thanks!

You can find T+ wholesale for $350 a pair, T- for $750 a pair. Generally speaking, retail is about twice wholesale so you're probably looking at around $300-350 for a nice example of a T+ albino.

Quality breeds quality, ask to see photos of the parents to get a better idea of what your baby may look like as an adult.
Pricing is subjective, you'll pay more for nicer animals obviously.
My advice is to seek out a reputable breeder or hobbyist, stay away from wholesalers and flippers who know little to nothing about the animals they're selling...
    Cheers

Quite a few wholesalers produce their own stock but just don't want to deal with individual sales. Still useful in this case for coming up with a price point. Flippers should be avoided but don't confuse them with reputable resellers who are often happy to provide information such as lineage and pictures of parents. A couple of things that separate these reputable resellers from flippers are a solid quarantine period before resale and a willingness(or even ability) to share background information on individual animals.

Thanks guys! This seller wanted $250 for the male.. He looked to be about 1.5' long.. Not sure on weight. I ended up buying a BP from the same sellers, but the;y breed their BPs in house. They had imported black bloods and some of the other bloods (they had 3 bloods, the T+ and about 5 imported blacks). The imported part scared me a little and the fact that they said all of the larger bloods had nasty dispositions.

Other than those, the only short tails at the show were being resold.

I don't plan on getting into breeding bloods, I'd just like a nice T+ male as a pet, but I'd still like to get a good example.

I don't see many listings for short tails on the sales sites online, so I'm sure I'll have quite the time finding what I'm looking for when the time comes.

Thanks for your help and time!

What's your husbandry like? Set up, temps? The amount of handling could be a contributing factor as well....how often and how long are the sessions?

The blood is in my rack, the room is 78 degrees, the racks heat tape is set to 90-93 degrees, humidity in all my tubs is 65-70% in the bloods tub it is 95% always , I heard bloods resist scale rot and they edit their humidity themselves which is so true for mine, if it drops to low she over flows her bowl and the humidity is back up , pretty smart for a peanut brain I have to say. When she was a hatchling between 1-2 times a week I handled her, then she became a (d) (i) (c) (k), at first i didnt let her win i would put her away when she stopped biting and then eventually she would get her few bites out and calm down, then now i handle her once a week when I clean her tub for the duration of the clean, this means in one hand is the blood python and the other is cleaning a tub with one hand ... she isn't as bad at striking at me anymore she doesn't fight to come out of her tub , but she turns and sees my hand it's done she just bites me maybe 1 -3 times then stares at my face as I clean. I laugh at how strong and big she is but her bites feel like my baby ball pythons.

I missed one of the questions so handling is once a week above stated and it is no more then 15 minutes depends how messy her tub is, my blood is one of my messier snakes.

    Re: Question about T+ Albinos

For starters your temps are about 10 degrees higher than they should be, I run my whole room at 80-82. I'm assuming you're keeping your blood in a rack with bp's? The temperature could definitely be playing a factor...
As for handling, more frequently wouldn't hurt, and I'd keep the sessions to about 5 mins each and gradually work up.
