Snake freaking out.

I've got two balls a butter and a normal. My butter has been freaking out today like I have never seen before. It started when my wife was leaving for work. Malcom was "elbowing" Simon like crazy to get away from him and seemed very interested in the side of the cage. Them 20 minutes later he shot across the cage and k ocker everything out of place. I took them both out and out them in a warm soak thinking maybe he might be a bit dry (our apartment has been very dry with the cold weather.) He seemed nonplussed by the soak, but then about 5 minutes ago he started up again shooting around the cage like a rat was trying to eat him. He even struck at the air once. He seems to have calmed for the moment and is drinking. Simon on the other hand has gone into hiding. Normally the two nest together or opposite ends of the cage, but aren't active like this during the day. Should I be worried or is Mal just having an off day. I was due to feed him today (Simon hasn't been eating so his feed was set for next week)

So how many do you have in the same enclosure? 2? 3?

Just the two. We bought them from a friend who decided to get rid of them because she was preggers. They've been I this thing with no trouble for the last year and it's a pretty big aquarium. Looks to be a 75 gal or more. Covers the top of the antique dresser it's on and is around 20 inches tall I think.

Sounds like possibly the housing them two together and then a stress bath may have just set them off. I understand that generally it is not suggested to house to bp's together.

Guess I'll have to work out new arrangements for them. I've got a couple 21 q totes I could turn into quite nice enclosures, and i can put them in the dressers center drawer space (been using that for storage since the drawer broke) think that would work? It'd have to wait u til I got a safe heating method (as I'm not sure those under cage mats can be used on plastic) any suggestions?

Firstly, they should be housed individually. A 75 gallon tank is entirely too much space for any bp to feel secure and established. Try to downsize and concentrate on adding a extra hides for them in separate enclosures. There is probably a dominance issue coupled with stress due to the overspace ! Stay in peace and not pieces. This. I have always been told that they need to be housed separately. Although you could divide that tank in half.... One side for each

Dividing this tank won't work. It's too tall and won't allow for a cool side and warm side. I did find a tutorial for setting up plastic totes though so I'm going to get the get together for that. I've already got the totes (which I realized are actually 34qt instead of 21qt.) I've got the perfect space for the totes that will properly hold heat and provide security for them. I have had BPs before but never knew they should be housed separately the other two i had always seemed fine and never pulled this stuff Malcom did today. Guess you learn something new every day.
