I'd probably get some small zip ties from a hardware store and run them through the mesh. I'd say anchor near the sides of the tank so it doesn't cause the middle section to bow downward.

But then every time that I take off the top, all of the plants will come with it..... That's going to be a pain....

You can buy some with suction cups on them and attach them to the sides of the tank

Get strong suction cups that have a small groove around the back teet. Use twist ties or baby zip ties to attach them around the groove. Another tip: your snake needs a temporary home for 48 hours... lay your tank on its side and use aquarium sealant to silicone them into the groove around the plastic trim.

With the suction cups your baby may pull them down from time to time. There is no need to sacrifice anything. Ball pythons love plants and obsticles. It makes them feel secure. Having nothing but hides and a water dish is wrong. Would you like to live in an empty shoe box? They spend their time hidden on forest or grassland floors... They need to be secure and have things to interact with for proper keeping

sacrifice for your snakes, if you take the top off and the vines come off also, that's a decision YOU would have to make..
