Questions concerning my new ball python

I purchased my first snake 8 days ago and he took a f/t mouse 3 days later just fine. I've handled him a few times(probably 5 minutes or so) since then and he is always tense or in a ball. Well yesterday I had him out because I needed to fill his water bowl with clean water and while I was holding him I had my hand in front of his face (for whatever reason I honestly can't remember why) and he struck at it and like headed butted my hand. Will this nervous, potentially striking behavior wean out as he gets older and more meals in him? I honestly think it was from him being stressed with the new conecept of me holding him because hes clearly not aggressive as I've picked him right up from his tank multiple times without any struggle.

I do not see an edit sorry...

my plan is to not bother him anymore until I attempt to feed him again on Thursday! I think I might have just been stressing him too much!

Yeah, shouldn't really be handling him within the timeframe you've owned him. The first week and meal should pretty much be to allow him to settle in. And you should be fine to do stuff like change water bowls without interacting with him. Especially new, he'll probably just pull back into his hide if he wasn't already in there.

Definitely just give him some time to settle for now.
