    New behaviors?

I've had my ball python approximately 3 months now. He's been acting differently these past couple weeks. He almost always is in his hot hide, but recently has been laying out in the open. He was taking his food by gently reaching out for it, but now he's striking and coiling, even though it's f/t. He's been acting hungry. When I come into the room his little head pops up and he starts licking the air. After I handle him he usually goes in his cage willingly. Recently it's been a challenge to get him back in his cage. Nothing has changed except his behavior. The thing I'm mostly worried about is him not using his hides. Why is he acting this way?

How much does he weigh and what are you feeding him? Sounds like he's searching for food.

Definitely seems like he is hungry or expecting food. What feeding schedule are you on? And what is his weight vs the weight of the food you give him?

Also, at least with the little I've experienced, striking is a more normal response. Kaa has always struck and coiled, and as far as I know, that is the natural eating behavior for healthy balls as they are constrictors.

Since he regurgitated I have been feeding him pinkies. He's eaten 3 of those successfully now. He weighs 75 grams and he normally eats 8-10 gram hopper mice. He gets fed every 5 days. No temp changes.

When did the regurgitation happen? Do you have an idea what caused it?

2 weeks ago. Possibly stress or it was too big. If you look at my other threads you can see the whole story.

I'd say make sure your ambient temps are correct (78-84F) and on his feeding day try feeding him a hopper again. Remember to give him 48 hours for digestion.
