Post Just got my first ball python and am looking for suggestions for the tank

I just got a desert ball python last weekend and ive been tampering around with her cage all week. Not sure what is the best things to use,i have both an UTH and a heat lamp but im finding that i don't use the lamp as it gets to hot in the cage. She spends most of the day in her hide. im also having an issue with humidity but i got cypress and coconut husk and will be mixing those together as well as misting twice daily. Any tips or tricks or suggestion id love to hear! thanks guys

    Hi,

You can put the heat lamp on a dimmer or dimming thermostat ( the UTH should be on a thermostat anyway ) and humidity is usually managed by controlling ventilation against exposed water area - pictures of your setup will let us give more specific advice.

I hope the seller made you aware of the breeding problem with female deserts but they are a stunning looking morph. Feel free to share pictures.

This is my snake and setup. The light is coming from my kingsnakes tank not from the heat lamps on top of the cage. I usually have a wet towel on top of the cage but i just switched substrates so im waiting for the tank to settle

Cover the screen top with foil or a piece of plexiglass that has a hole cut in it for the heat lamp. With that in place it will retain heat and humidity better so you may only need one fixture. I would also swap out the light for a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) as bright lights can stress out a ball python - they're primarily nocturnal animals and hide or go underground during the day.
