    PetCo and mites

Fuzzy has mites. I feel terrible, but a few people I've talked to say it's inevitable if you buy a reptile from PetCo. We bought some Reptile Spray but I was wondering if there's anything that works better? Or anything to do to prevent this from happening again.

    1) Stay out of Petco. They offer free mites with every snake, whether you want them or not.

If the mites were from them then don't buy from them. I assume you feed live. If you do F/T most likely the mites weren't from the mouse. Chain stores generally just order in frozen feeders so the likely hood of them comin from the store in that case are low. Even if you buy live unless the feeders are super close to the reptiles it would still be unlikely they would carry mites.

If you are worried about their feeders just don't buy from them. If you don't have other options in town you can feed f/t and order online or if you feed live breed your own.

I prefer to use NIX to treat mites. Some people are for it, some are against it. You will find this also applies to lots of aspects of caring for reptiles. Personaly I had great results with it. It works good as long as you are using it properly. Just google "nixs snakes" if you wanna learn more about it.

Depends on the store I bought my normal from there back in October.. No mites... Snake has been a great feeder and hasn't missed a meal.. All depends on the store.. But knowing what I know today and how I see there snakes I wouldn't buy from them again...
