    Are you covering the whole top? I have thick cardboard cut to fit completely over the top of the screen and then I cut a 11" hole in the center to fit a 10" dome with a CHE over a large water bowl and then I wrapped the cardboard with tin foil and my humidity is around 60%. It sounds like you got too much airflow. If you use humid hides when they shed, you should be fine with the shedding but I'm not sure how long term effects of low humidity would affect something like their lungs drying out. I mean I might be over thinking it but I try and allow the majority of my red tail boa and ball pythons cage time to be 50-60% humidity. My boa spends a lot of time out of her cage though and our house humidity is only around 30%ish so who knows. Just food for thought.
