reading temps and humidity
got my first snakes last week. my set ups seems to be great, after much worry about them (i worry about everything) i think i got almost everything down pat. here are my only problems:
i have a herpstat 1 with 4" flexwatt wired in parallel. the top piece is the one with the probe. it has the best readings, closest to 90 degrees unless the probe gets moved. how do i keep the probe from moving? i have it taped down with metal tape but not taped directly to the UTH, i have it taped along the corner of my rack and then the probe rests on the UTH. do you guys have any pictures?
the second piece of flexwatt seems to not heat up as much. when i do my temp gun readings, it comes at 80-89 but not usually 90. i think i may be checking at odd times, or when i check i dont go fast enough and it loses a degree or two.
my acurites are odd. both of them give me almost perfect readings, 91 degree hotspots, 79-82 cool side. the humidity for the good acurite reads at 69% and thats when the only water source is a small bowl with a closed lid on one tub and a normal bowl on a lidless tub this reads at 69%. lid tub has plenty of holes. the other tub has less holes, but no lid with a space between the rack and this reads at 66%. so is 66% and 69% humidity too much? how should i lower it? more holes, or do you think acurite is not acurate?

Re: reading temps and humidity
When I said "read to do" I researched and found that a big dish was unnecessary. Is this untrue? Should I switch to the bigger one?

u asking about ur herp stat probe right? U should have it tapped down to the heat tape to get a reading on it . But depending on how accurate u cut everything and how much stuff is wired up and how big the piece of heat tape is sometimes t will be 90 in on spot and 93 in another for example . As far as that tub it's thin so basically the heat tape Reading will b the same in the tub. Maybe a degree or 2 less . It will be hard to tape that one u have in the tub down cause the snake will move it around . U should invest in a temp gun . There not expensive

Re: reading temps and humidity
I do own a temp gun but it goes me weird readings. The herpstat will say 94 degrees, and if I take the actual peice if heat tapes temp then the temp gun reads at 100-106. I think this is because it's basically in a box and the area is somewhat all heated in the back.
Also, the top layer of the aspen reads at 85, but with no aspen it reads at 91 with the temp gun. Should I let the snakes push the aspen as they please, or put less in? I just feel like tet don't know they can move it around because they haven't yet
