Too darn close! I woke up this morning and checked on everyone. Sprocket was just chillin, but Andy was gone! In my haste to go to bed last night, i didnt put the extra locks back on the lid to his enclosure. Well i freaked out and started tearing the room apart. Tried the couch, under dressers, and immediately around where his tank is. I didnt find him, so i went out into the game room and started looking. I opened up the closet, and BINGO there he was with his head sticking out of a coat pocket. It would have made a great pic, but i wasnt too concerned with that. He was lucky the dog didnt get him.

From now on i am never not putting the extra locks back on the cage. I dont even think twice about it with Sprocket, but i never thought Andy would be able to get that lid open. I was way wrong. Lesson learned.

Compadres, it is imperative that we crush the freedom fighters before the start of the rainy season. And remember, a shiny new donkey for whomever brings me the head of Colonel Montoya.

I have a screen top with a bolt that you pick up and drop down when it clears the lip. is this sufficient for a bp? I can't imagine it's not, but with the mention of extra locks I want to be sure.
Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony

Bungee cords are a cheap and effective way to keep the top secure. That's what I'm using for mine. Of course, I don't have the ball python yet, but I've tested it, and I could hardly lift it up at all, so I'm sure he won't be pushing all that weight up with his itty bitty head.

right now i have 2 bp's in a very secure 20 gal tank. when i am done building their larger 55 gal enclosure i am going to put them in there. i am trying to think of ways to keep something that large of a space secure. the 20 gal. is a perfect system of slide and lock with tabs and slots.. pre made at a factory and only costs 40 $ at the local petco (which i am now boycotting due to their bad handling of animals). anyone have any ideals for the larger tank??

Ack! One of my worst fears! Glad to hear it turned out well for you. Good thing he had his head out of that pocket and you saw him, I don't know about you but a pocket would have to be the last place I would have looked!

kontron, you may want to consider housing your BPs in 2 separate enclosures. They seem to like their solitude better than having a roommate.

right now the other cage is being de-mited. it is a huge 55 gal. glass tank, and very difficult to move. they both had mites so we wanted to keep them contained together till the mites were all gone. then we were going to split them. right now they are small enough to fit together withut trouble in the 20 gal.
