incubator temp question
Just want some opinions on what every incubates at . This is my 1st year so I'm a little nervous . Right now I'm @ 89/88 but it does drop to 87 when I open up . And this is in the tubs I got 3 different therms in 3 different tubs . But from u folks that have been doing this for a while just throw up ur numbers if u don't mind .. thanks
Also what's the lowest the temp could be and the highest
Thanks

Re: incubator temp question
I maintain about 89. Even with fluctuations within a couple degrees, you'll be fine. But make sure its consistent. What type of incubator are you using?

Just a home made one. Built a mini fridge into one . I'm maintaining 88/89 one row is constant 89 the other 2 seems to be 88 .

Re: incubator temp question
The few clutches I have hatched have been incubated at 89 degrees with the first pip being right around 56 days. However, I have had hatchlings in every clutch that required assist feeding to get started, as many as half the clutch. I have heard by incubating at lower temperatures that hatchlings tend to be larger upon hatching and have stronger feeding responses. I intend to incubate this year at 87 and see what the results are for myself, realizing of course that it should be a longer incubation period then previous clutches.

Do you have a fan circulating the air in the incubator? If not then I would suggest wiring a small computer fan in there so that the ambient is the same through out the incubator. There really shouldn't be too much variation from tub to tub if your setup is correct.

I do have a fan . It's either my therms that are off . Or its the shelf I built . That's causing the issue . But I don't know what I would use for a shelf . It didn't have the wire shelfs with it so I made one out of this plastic stuff

Re: incubator temp question
I was thinking of cutting the tape but then idk if it would be enough tape after that

But the box that reads hottest is the one under the fan . The fan is mounted to the top
