I'll be the first to tell you that you don't own a giant python without having a lot of experience and know-how...and back-up keepers to help take care of it. However, that being said, no matter how scary the stories are...they are rare. And in every single instance, the owner was at fault due to their own negligence. They either neglected the snake, or neglected their basic safety procedures...or both. I can't remember the exact numbers right off, but I've got it documented somewhere: In the last 30 years, there have only been about seven cases of death by giant constrictor in North America.
If I had a giant snake, I would not be afraid of it. But neither would I ever neglect either the animal or very strict safety procedures.
