The UTH whether you use 1 or 2 both need to be controlled by thermostat.. No matter the size. You can use CHE or red bulbs to heat ambient temps. UTHs also don't affect ambient temps very much
edit I don't use glass enclosures anymore due to humidity problems but my pvc enclosure has been working great
