I'm not sure what size mouse they were feeding her. I believe she is undersized because yes they were feeding but only enough to sustain her, not let her flourish if you will. The first 3 1/2 feeding I bought normal mice...maybe about two inches long for the feeding. The couple small rats I have now are nice fat ones about 4 or 5 inches long. The mice didn't even make her look like she ate...the smaller rats give her just the slightest bit of a bump. With a better feeding routine I expect her to get a bit of a late growth spurt. Like I said...she eats like a champ.

The snake appears healthy though a bit on the small side, I would watch that aspen...Eco earth has a tendency to mold easily and aspen has very little resistance to it so depending on what your humidity needs end up being it may be wiser to switch the aspen out for cypress or coconut bark.

Thanks for that....I'll be watching closely and if need be can switch it all out fairly quickly.

It's great she converted so quickly! Some BP's are difficult when it comes to switching mice to rats or even rat to larger rat! Definitely have a champ feeding wise! Sounds like you know what you're doing feeding wise though!

This forum is great for advice, or even a general chit chat about BP's. I'm in England and I still prefer this forum to any of the solely UK one's for the people, advice and comparisons.

I use coco husk and moss in my bps enclosure. I do go through a couple times a week and stir it up. I've heard of mold problems but have never had any. I alsomgive fresh water every day and check for yuckies. I hate having to clean the yuckies but I do it because I want her to stay in a clean enclosure. Your new bp is a beautiful girl. Well hello all. I don't post much but thought I would post a current pick of or LITTLE normal Snickers. As the beginning posts say, we have her for a bit over a year and she is doing great. I never did weigh her but with a better diet and properly sized meals she is fat and happy. I know she has at least doubled in weight and put on an addition X number of inches. We have not changed at thing in her enclosure expect adding better tops. Her temps stay nice and even, humidity stays around 60% constant.

I do have a question regarding feeding. During her first year she would take a f/t rat every week, no issues. We could handle her, put her back, and give her a rat and she is all about nom nom nom. Now, however, she is a bit more picky. Becuase of her size increase we had moved her up to meduim to meduim large f/t with no problems. Of course, there is the but......But now she is a bit more picky. I moved to every two weeks and still get about every other time a refusal. Process of warming, drying, and blowdrying the rat all the same. She simply don't wanna eat some times.

My thinking is that basically, since she was undersized, she pretty much power fed on her own to get up to size and body condition. Now, she is simply content and lazy and doesn't have the same metabolism and drive. Its not like I enjoy throwing a rat away after she choses not to eat it but would like to of course not be wastefull.

So, here is my question. I thinking of changing up her food routine a bit but not in a manner that she would know. I'm thinking of buying my rat live, killing using either the disolcation method or a spike to the brain. I would then offer her the rat. If she doesn't eat within an hour I'll freeze it and offer the next week or two. I thought about switching to live but that seems counterproductive. Also, I don't want to stress her by chasing a live rat around her enclosure.

Her temps, humidity, hides, enclosure, all are dialed in. We have good one piece sheds, she handles fine, appears to be healthy and content, and my guess is she is just a big girl now and not feeling the drive to put on size.

At this point it's safe to assume that she's fully grown. With fully grown snakes, sometimes they decide to go off food, especially when it's breeding time for them. However; that part may last for months, so it's odd that she goes about 4 weeks without eating. As I'm sure you know, snakes are picky and stress easily, and at this point in her life, being fed once every 2 weeks may be stressful for her. Try reducing the feeding to once every 3 weeks and see if that'll make her eat. That will be more cost efficient, and you'll have less wasted rats.
