I've got an African spurred tortoise and a leopard tortoise. They are both only about 4 months old, and I love 'em! They aren't that much work, but they will be when they are old enough to live outside!

I was looking at them and the Russian tortoise, but everything says they still need like a 4x2 enclosure or something like that.
Maybe when I hit the lottery....

feeding Q...help please !
In house right now we have
1.0.0 Russian tort
1.2.0 Red Eared sliders
0.0.1 Painted turtle
I love working with different species. We have seen quite a variety come through. One of my favorites was an alligator snapping turtle (Macroclemys temminckii) named “Chomper”. He sure had his own personality. I also love spotted turtles. If you are able to legally obtain a spotted turtle in your state, I would recommend one for a great aquatic companion.
I find that turtles and tortoises are very personable. They definatly seem to be more “interactive” then many other reptiles.
I would love to recommend Russian tortoises for great pets. The only drawback (which to me is a major one), is they are all wild caught. It is very hard and expensive to actually find a captive bred Russian.
If you guys are interested in more info about adopting turtles or tortoises, please feel free to pm me, or let me know here. I will gladly post links to different rescue sources.
There is also allot of information about conservation projects happening all over the world dealing with many different species. So let me know if this may spark an interest for you.
Thanks
Rusty

Wow, I didn't realize most Russians were WC. I work with some turtles and tortoises at the zoo and they have such cute faces! I think the most space I could give a give a turtle/tortoise would be 3x2 and I prefer tortoises or more terrestrial turtles. The less water I have to deal with the better.
You should post links to the rescues in case anyone is interested. I'd love to check them out.

Have you looked at the egyptian dwarf tortoise they stay very small 4-5" and dont require as much space as most species 8-10 square feet of floor space! but captive born babies are not cheap

Yeah, I've settled on an Egyptian - after I get all my snakes I want and their caging. I've heard 2 different size cages for them - some say 6 square feet and some say 8 square feet. They are sooo cute!
