Just give them time. They will do what they need to do when the time is right. That's what I keep telling myself. I had a male that I've been trying to get going. He finally figured it out. I believe the little guy would breed a stick, if it smelled like a female. Now He even gets aggressive,when I remove him from the females tub. Just give yours time. I know it's hard.
