    Mites on feeder rats!

I went through mite treatment with my pied after buying him from a reptile expo; he has been in quarantine since we own another ball python. He has been mite free for weeks now until I fed him on Monday.

I'm trying to switch him to frozen but so far he hasn't taken it so I'm forced to feed him live. I purchased a rat for him Monday after work and fed him in his tank; made sure he ate it okay then let him be. Before I went to bed I checked on him as this was his first small rat (just moved him up). I found TWO full grown mites on him!! I stayed up and changed out the paper towel in his tank, cleaned his hides and the tank, sprayed him down with Reptile Spray then checked under his mouth in the fold to make sure none of the little pests were hiding in there; nothing. Just the two adult mites.

Is there any way for me to treat the feeder rats before I give them to him that won't harm him? There is no other place around to buy live feeders so I'm kind of stuck until I can get him to accept f/t rats.

Do you guys use Callingtons ?

It's by far the most popular mite product in the UK judging by the UK forums ..

The pied HAD mites but he was treated and he has been clean for several weeks; the two mites I found were after feeding him a live feeder rat from the only local reptile shop.

I want to know if theres anything I can treat the feeder rat with before I give it to him; something that won't harm him since he's going to be eating it.

Try washing the rat down with water, this should remove mites, just check into its fur etc.
But I don't think snake mites can live on rats.

Although if you can get mites from something like substrate bought from a pet store , presumably mites can travel on rats as well??
